Last week we introduced the new website #MEAction, a tool for ME/CFS advocacy and fund raising. One of the research projects that the site is supporting is the Open Medicine Foundation’s big data study on patients with severe ME/CFS. This study is significant because most ME/CFS studies exclude patients who are severely ill, whether through study sample requirements or simply through the difficulty of involving people who are confined to their home or their bed.
#MEAction has a short Q&A with the Big Data Study’s team, which helps to fill in some of the details about what the study will be looking at and what it’ll be trying to achieve. In particular, they’ll be looking for biomarkers that can lead to quick diagnosis and effective treatment. They also discuss why they’re using private funding and what, exactly, their crowdfunding targets will be able to achieve.
